Whether you’re a student, a mid-career professional or a senior leader, SBM offers a combination of live and online opportunities to meet continuing education requirements, plan a collegiate-level course, get advice and resources for your next research project or hone your leadership skills.

Leadership Institute

SBM offers a year-long Leadership Institute for mid-career members. The institute kicks off with an in-person, two-day workshop where participant fellows attend skill-building sessions and engage with former participants. Then, throughout the institute year, fellows develop their own self-identified leadership projects, and receive one-on-one coaching from professional coaches and peer-group mentoring from SBM leaders.

Monica Baskin Diversity Institute for Emerging Leaders

The purpose of the SBM Monica Baskin Diversity Institute for Emerging Leaders is to help early-career members from diverse backgrounds or those who are working with those from underrepresented populations develop into effective, thoughtful leaders by fostering leadership skills and a deep understanding of the principles of diversity and inclusion. The Diversity Institute is a year-long endeavor, featuring an intensive one-day, in-person workshop followed by ongoing small-group mentorship.

Early Career Researcher Mentoring Program

The ECR Mentoring Program is an exciting opportunity for SBM´s early career researchers to receive mentoring from a SBM expert and to connect with other early career researchers in behavioral medicine. Program participants meet regularly with their SBM mentor and a small group of peer researchers throughout the year to network and consult on a variety of behavioral medicine research and career development topics.

Community Engagement Studios

Consultative Community Engagement Studio meetings with community members provide researchers with the opportunity to ask questions of people who have a personal interest in the outcomes of their research, leading the researchers to modify their protocols or even their specific aims. Community members may provide input on any stage of the research project, including weighing on whether a proposed study merits doing at all.

These studios may sound daunting and time-consuming, but they're actually very feasible. And they work.
