The purpose of this webinar is to raise awareness to various aspects of LGBTQIA+ health disparities. The LGBTQIA+ community faces multiple health adversities, including adverse mental health outcomes such as increased rates of depression, anxiety, and suicidality (including suicidal ideation and attempts) when compared to the cishet (cisgender/heterosexual) community. In this webinar, Kayla Sall will discuss barriers to receiving gender affirming care in primary and specialty care settings. Catherine Wall will then discuss her research on gender-related medical misattribution and invasive questioning (GRMMIQ), known by the colloquial term “trans broken arm syndrome,” in acute care settings. Finally, Shelby Smout will discuss their work on trans, nonbinary, and gender diverse health post-COVID: Key takeaways and future considerations. The panelists will then take questions regarding their work and the overall topic of LGBTQIA+ health disparities.
