The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health invites applications for the position of Health, Behavior and Society Professor and Chair of the Department of Health, Behavior and Society (HBS). The successful applicant will have a record of academic and research accomplishment, an active research portfolio, demonstrated leadership and administrative abilities and a vision for the impact of the Department on public health. The Department of Health, Behavior and Society is dedicated to addressing many of today’s most intractable public health issues that are rooted in human behavior and social conditions—from smoking and substance use to injury and infectious and chronic disease. HBS tackles these issues and many more—by developing and evaluating individually and bundled targeted interventions, working with entire communities to address the social factors that affect health and improving health through public policy and other structural interventions. Particular strengths of the department are in the areas of health communication, health education and the development and evaluation of community-level interventions. The department conducts empirical research locally, nationally and globally. The Bloomberg School of Public Health has ten departments and 700 primary faculty and more than 2,300 graduate-level students.
