Outlook: Newsletter of the Society of Behavorial Medicine

Fall 2021

Do you have a passion for writing and sharing information? Can you help energize the Society of Behavioral Medicine’s (SBM’s) membership? Are you looking for a way to get more involved with SBM?

SBM’s Publications and Communications Council is seeking applicants for editor of the society’s Outlook member newsletter. Outlook is published online quarterly and provides updates about SBM activities, policies, and other issues affecting the behavioral medicine community.

Under the editor’s direction, content is solicited from SBM’s special interest groups and others. The editor reviews and approves all articles, and proofs the final issue before release. The editor can write an editor’s note for each issue, and can also request specific content from authors and plan special sections. The editor has staff support for all tasks. The editor’s time commitment is estimated at no more than 20 hours per year.

The editor will begin work on January 1, 2022, shadowing outgoing editor Crystal Lumpkins, PhD, for the spring 2022 issue. The new editor will be responsible for all issues from summer 2022 through spring 2025.

Serving as editor is a valuable opportunity to enhance leadership skills and connect directly with SBM leaders and the SBM membership at large.

Candidates should submit a CV and 500-1,000 word statement on their vision for Outlook. Candidates must be SBM members in good standing. Experience with editorial or science communication a plus. Send materials to SBM Executive Director Lindsay Bullock at lbullock@sbm.org by October 29, 2021. The editor will be selected from among all qualified candidates by the SBM Board of Directors.
