The University of Florida (UF) College of Public Health and Health Professions (PHHP) is recruiting a Chair for the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology (CHP), with a faculty appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level (tenure or tenure-track).

CHP seeks a dynamic leader whose key responsibilities include promoting departmental-wide excellence in education, scholarship, and clinical reach through recruiting, developing, and retaining outstanding faculty & staff, deploying resources, and facilitating a positive culture. The chair will provide strategic oversight & collaborative leadership across core departmental functions—including academic programs, clinical services, research support, and administrative operations—by empowering program directors & staff, ensuring accreditation and funding continuity, fostering innovation and growth. Reporting to the dean, the chair will work with college leadership to identify & implement strategic initiatives & partnerships.

Qualifications

The well-qualified candidate will have a distinguished record of scholarly achievement, extramural funding, teaching & mentoring, and leadership consistent with the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Final determination of title & tenure readiness will be made at time of hire. Academic credentials include a doctoral degree or equivalent in an appropriate area of specialization from an accredited institution & demonstrated excellence in research & training, with license-eligibility as a health service psychologist strongly preferred. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month appointment. Ideal candidates will be recognized as a current or emerging leader in a discipline aligned with the department’s focus, a track record building synergistic teams, relevant administrative or management experience, and a strong commitment to fostering collaborations both within & outside the Institution.

Department

CHP is a national leader in research, training & service provision in the areas of Child & Pediatric, Health, and Neuropsychology. The department offers programming at 4 levels of training: Ph.D. Program, APA-accredited since 1953; Internship Program, APA-accredited since 1967; Postdoctoral Training Program, APPIC-affiliated since 2020; and Undergraduate Teaching. Research spans pediatric & adult chronic illness management, cognitive aging, neurodegenerative diseases, health equity, stigma, behavioral interventions, and the integration of advanced technologies (e.g., neuroimaging, AI, neuromodulation, telehealth) to enhance diagnosis, treatment, and health outcomes across the lifespan, with a strong emphasis on understudied populations & translational science. UF Health Psychology Specialties is a nonprofit, multidisciplinary training clinic offering lifespan psychological & neuropsychological assessment & evidence-based therapy with a focus on integrated, supervised care for diverse behavioral, cognitive, & emotional concerns—ranging from chronic illness & neurodevelopmental disorders to trauma & mood disorders—while serving as a vital referral & consultation resource for UF Health’s medical community.

Institution

CHP is housed in PHHP, which is comprised of 8 departments: Biostatistics, CHP, Environmental & Global Health, Epidemiology, Health Services Research, Management & Policy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech, Language, & Hearing Sciences. The college has 178 faculty who contribute to its 4 missions — research, education, clinical care & service, which are united by a common focus on prevention. It is ranked 9th in NIH research funding among public schools of public health, according to the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. The college houses 25 degree programs that span undergraduate, professional doctorate, master’s & doctoral programs including the Bachelor of Health Science, Master of Arts in Communication Sciences & Disorders, and Doctor of Physical Therapy.

PHHP is one of 16 colleges at UF & one of six health-related colleges which are all located on a single, contiguous campus, including: Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Medicine. The health colleges are adjacent to partner institutions UF Health Shands Hospital & the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center. Additional major institutes & centers include McKnight Brain Institute, Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases, Breathing Research & Therapeutics Center, UF Health Cancer Center, and Clinical & Translational Science Institute, all of which provide state-of-the-art environments & resources for faculty collaboration.
