POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Postdoctoral Fellow
REPORTS TO: Dr. Tanya Spruill
GENERAL SUMMARY: We are seeking a postdoctoral research scientist with a background and interest in behavioral medicine, mental health, health equity, and/or women’s health research in the Institute for Excellence in Health Equity (IEHE) at NYU Langone Health. The postdoctoral research scientist will be mentored by Dr. Tanya Spruill, a clinical psychologist and behavioral scientist who leads the IEHE Mental Health Research Pillar. Current projects include NIH, CDC, and American Heart Association funded clinical trials of mindfulness-based interventions for patients with a range of chronic conditions, including hypertension, heart disease, and epilepsy, and longitudinal cohort studies. Candidates with experience or interest in other patient populations are welcome. Points of intervention may include individual and group work with patients and families, as well as direct collaboration with providers. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with numerous other professionals across a variety of medicine, public health, and social science disciplines. Mentorship in grant writing and career development will be provided. NYU offers a broad range of training activities and support. This is a 2-year position.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Contribute to a dynamic and growing interdisciplinary team by participating in the development, implementation and management of new programs, including relevant grant submissions
• Participate in clinical research activities, including developing and implementing research protocols and intervention materials; intervention delivery and/or monitoring; managing timelines and reporting requirements
• Perform data analyses
• Prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals and present findings at scientific meetings
• Coordinate the planning, development, and submission of new grant applications
• Develop skills and expertise needed to launch an independent research career in a related area
HIRING QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills: Excellent scientific writing and oral communication skills; strong quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis skills; evidence of highly effective project management, team leadership, and personnel management skills.
Educational Requirements: Doctoral degree preferably in psychology, public health, health education, population health, nursing, social work, or medicine
Experience: Prior experience with patient-oriented research required. Prior training and/or experience with mindfulness research and practice is preferred but not required.
The salary range is $70,000 -$75,000
