Description/Mission Statement
The HIV/AIDS and Sexual Health SIG will promote research and practice in the related yet distinct areas of HIV/AIDS, sexual health, and sexual/gender minority health. HIV represents one of the most serious health pandemics and one where behavioral, social, and biomedical scientists have made great contributions to reversing its course through understanding and reducing transmission, morbidity, and mortality. There are numerous pronounced health disparities in HIV infection and prognosis, and a variety of topics related to HIV and sexual/gender minority health disparities are key trans-institute priorities of the NIH. The purpose of this group is to serve as a unified presence to seek out and encourage social, behavioral, and biomedical research in the aforementioned areas within the Annual Meeting and the Society's journals as well as to bring together trainees, early career researchers, leading scientists, practitioners, and funding representatives to set research agendas and recognize extraordinary contributions to this area.
