The UTHealth School of Public Health (UTSPH) Dallas campus is expanding a multidisciplinary research program in the social determinants of health, and the integration of epidemiologic, sociological, economic, and other analytic sciences, in the study of health services and health promotion. We invite applications for multiple tenure-track positions at the Assistant and Associate professor ranks. Competitive salary and start-up resources are available. The positions will report to the dean of the Dallas campus, and the department chairs of Epidemiology, Human Genetics, and Environmental Sciences or Health Promotion-Behavioral Sciences.
The UTSPH is composed of six campuses located across Texas: Austin, Brownsville, Dallas, El Paso, Houston, and San Antonio with a combined 165 faculty and 1,200 graduate students at the masters’ and doctoral levels. An MD-MPH degree program is offered to students at the Dallas campus, and all the other campuses, making UTSPH the largest provider of this educational opportunity in the country. Existing collaborations in Dallas have advanced research programs to improve health outcomes in vulnerable populations in cancer prevention and control, cancer survivorship, tobacco prevention and cessation, violence/injury prevention, and overall child and adolescent health. Primary responsibilities will include conducting externally funded research, teaching graduate-level epidemiology courses, and developing collaborations across campuses, departments, and communities. Ideal candidates will have a broad understanding and interest in multidisciplinary team science studies of how social factors, financing systems, organizational structures and processes, health technologies, and personal behaviors affect access to health care, the quality and cost of health care, and ultimately our health and well-being.
Specifically, we are interested in: candidates with: (1) an earned doctoral degree in epidemiology, health promotion-behavioral science, or related disciplines in research design, qualitative, or quantitative methods; (2) graduate level teaching experience in epidemiology or health promotion-behavioral science; (3) research emphasis in epidemiology or health promotion with focus on individuals, families, organizations, institutions, communities, and populations; and (4) a track record of research publications commensurate with academic rank and demonstrating potential for securing external funding.
