Hackensack University Medical Center – Assistant Scientist, Cancer Prevention & Control

In this highly visible role, you will conduct and publish research as an independent investigator. Ideal candidate will have a track record of having secured grant funding and also has to be actively seeking independent peer reviewed grant funding to support their research. You will also be expected to conduct research in topics related to cancer prevention and control. Particular areas of interest include cancer survivorship, cancer outcomes, intervention development, health decision making, familial/genetic risk, and health communication, although qualified applicants with expertise in other areas will be considered.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Obtaining and actively seeking foundation or government research funding for research activities
  • Disseminating research results in peer-reviewed and other publications, invited talks, and national and international science meetings
  • Helping build collaborations in a large regional cancer consortium spanning NJ, DC, and MD
  • Engaging in other professional activities including scientific consulting, editorial work, seminar participation, service on NIH study sections and review panels and attendance at national and international science meetings


  • Ph.D. degree in a population science discipline (e.g., psychology, public health, health services, or other behavioral science)
  • Demonstrated achievement in developing and conducting funded research and disseminating research results
  • Minimum of 5 years total experience including appointment as a Postdoctoral Fellow, Research Associate, Instructor, or Assistant Professor
  • Minimum of 3 years total post-degree experience if candidate has already obtained adequate independent research funding at the federal or foundation level
  • Potential for obtaining federal or equivalent-level foundation grants

The position of Assistant Scientist is a 3 year contracted position.
