Behavioral Informatics Postdoctoral Research Fellowship
Boston University School of Medicine

Boston University School of Medicine is seeking applications for a two-year post-doctoral fellowship. The Boston-Area Biomedical Informatics Program (http://www.bmiboston.org/) is a behavioral informatics program is internationally recognized for its excellence. The Fellowship offers training in the broad discipline of behavioral informatics with a focus on training in interventional informatics (the study of the use of computers and other information technologies in the direct delivery of behavioral health services). The faculty is known for the development and evaluation of a wide range of automated interventions that promote self-care in patients with chronic disease and that reduce behavioral risk factors for disease (e.g., diet, physical activity, smoking, alcohol and drug use, etc.). Fellows receive full tuition to receive didactic education in a Harvard-based masters degree program in biomedical informatics, in which the masters has four unique tracks allowing coursework to be tailored to meet diverse learning needs in computer science, public health, health communications, behavioral medicine or other curricula. Fellows complete one or more research projects involving the development and/or evaluation of informatics systems. The Fellowship requires a PhD, MD or equivalent degree. A background in public health, psychology, health communications or medicine and a strong interest in information technology are desirable. US citizenship or permanent residency is required.

Director, Community Engaged Research

Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN seeks a Director for the Office of Community- Engaged Research within the Center for Translational Science Activities. The Office of Community-Engaged Research supports and coordinates all research-related community activities at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.  The Director is responsible for the general oversight and direction of the office, and plays a leadership role in assisting investigators to conceptualize, develop and conduct community-engaged research.  The Director develops tactical plans for outreach to involve communities in the research process and evaluates plan implementation procedures and outcomes. The Director leads and manages the development of research initiatives with research teams, with other medical centers, and with community organizations.  The Director serves as lecturer and mentor for training programs in community-engaged research, cultural competence and health disparities research to strengthen the research capabilities of clinical investigators, support staff, fellows and medical students. The Director directly supervises other staff that performs outreach activities and other staff assigned to the office. 

The Director should possess a doctoral degree in public health, health services research, clinical epidemiology, medical sociology, cultural anthropology or other health related sciences field. Must have experience in clinical research or health sciences research; familiarity with community organizations, diverse cultures, health disparities concepts, plus experience in developing collaborative work relationships with research institutions and community groups.

Health Psychology and Primary Care Psychology Positions

The Department of Psychology at Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC) is recruiting for health psychology and primary care psychology positions. In some positions, travel within the US is required and for those positions, a retention allowance is available. Qualifications include licensure in any US state, a Ph.D. or Psy.D. degree from an APA approved program, with an APA approved internship. Health psychology positions require additional training and experience. Experience in working with diabetes, chronic pain, or sleep disordered populations are highly desirable. The 2010 salary range at the GS-13 level is $87306-$113496. Qualified applicants may also be eligible for a recruitment/retention allowance.

The Department of Psychology at MAMC is a leader in the field of military psychology research and the application of empirically based treatments for Service Members and their families. Behavioral Scientist Faculty Position
at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the University of Washington

The Cancer Prevention Program of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC) is seeking applications from individuals trained in the social or behavioral sciences for a full-time Assistant Member position. Although the primary appointment will be at the FHCRC (with salary from the FHCRC), applicants are invited to apply for a joint position in the Department of Health Services at the University of Washington (UW) as a full-time Assistant Professor (without tenure) or a Research Assistant Professor. We are particularly interested in applicants with a strong theoretical background whose research interests include theory-based and novel approaches to social and behavioral changes in cancer prevention and control. Individuals with experience/training in intervention research at the community level are especially sought. Past research or training in health disparities research is a plus. The successful candidate will be expected to openly communicate and collaborate with other social and behavioral scientists and programs at the FHCRC and UW. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

The Cancer Prevention Program (http://www.fhcrc.org/phs/cprp) undertakes research into the causes, early detection, and prevention of cancer and its outcomes. The Program includes a diverse faculty representing psychology, sociology, economics, biostatistics, nutrition, epidemiology, clinical medicine, laboratory science, health disparities, health outcomes and exercise physiology. Current faculty interests and research include cancer prevention and screening, health outcomes during treatment and survivorship, and medical decision-making. Shared resources in biostatistics, epidemiology, survey methods, and laboratory sciences will support this position.

Behavioral Science Educator/Evaluation Expert Position

Postdoctoral Position Available
Interdisciplinary Clinical Psychologist

Postdoctoral research opportunity through the Biobehavioral Medicine in Oncology Program (University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute) for a candidate with advanced training in clinical psychology (PhD), as well as an interest in contributing to the development of a program of interdisciplinary clinical research with esophageal cancer patients. The Fellowship will include interdisciplinary mentoring, as well as opportunities for formal didactic training, hours toward licensure, grant writing and hands-on interdisciplinary research on a funded project.

Expertise with randomized clinical trial methodologies is essential. The successful candidate will have an outstanding track record of productivity, experience with grant writing, as well as evidence of dedication to collaborative interdisciplinary approaches and an appreciation of the power of translational perspectives. Previous experience with cancer patients or patients with other medical illnesses is a plus, but not required.
